Paul Zorn has come up with a reasonable conjecture of how (a,b)+(c,d)=
(a+c,b+d). Unfortunately, this is not what the authors had in mind.
Anyone else care to try? The reason for posting this is that it
tells some of what was wrong with the last attempt to change the
way mathematics was taught. We need to learn what the mistakes
were, so as to try to avoid similar ones now.
