The issue of a Mayan Mars calendar has been debated for a long time per:
http://www.jstor.org/pss/971837
My view is that no firm conclusion can be reached until the math that created the linked set of Mayan calendars and its great year is decoded.
Brahmagupta, 550 AD, used a form of the Chinese Remainder Theorem (CRT) that predicted lunar and solar eclipses as indeterminate equations, a math skill that reported in the Mayan Dresden Codex.
One day the Mayan version of the CRT will be reported. At that time the Mars calendar, and other issues will fall into place.
