Floyd Lounsbury:

decoded the the most rigorous number theory aspects of the Dresden Codex. Two of his papers were published in "The Sky in Mayan Literature", editor A. Aveni,in 1992.
Lounsbury cited a vivid, and incomplete, number theory approach that solved Mayan numbers like 1.5.5.0 in the Venus table, page 207, and a "Derivation of the Mayan to Julian Calendar Correlation from the Dresden Codex Venus Chronology" page 184.
Lounsbury earned an undergrad degree in mathematics before entering his chosen field of study. Few Mayanists and Epigraphers hold math degrees, one reason that I offer as a subtle reason why the calendar context of the Dresden Codex remains, in great part, un-decoded today in terms of its ancient mathematical rules and methodologies.
