Wow, mathematics is about calculating and proving answers ..
sometimes in Franz' small vision. RMP 31,32, 33 AND 34 were algebra problems ... with no hekat volumes ...
RMP 35 calculated 30/53 hekat by scaling
30/53 hekat = [2/53 (30/30) + 28/53 (2/2)]hekat
and proved the methodology and answers by solving
53/53 hekat = [2/53 (30/30) + 3/53(20/20) + 5/53(12/12 + 15/53(4/4) + 28/52(2/2)]hekat
facts that should not be ignored ... AS FRANZ DOES, OVER AND OVER AGAIN, THROWING THE BABY OUT WITH THE BATH WATER!
Conclusion: Franz's approach offers a VALID modern transliteration of scribal math ... without discussing any of the red auxiliary numbers and other interesting scribal shorthand facts that fill this problem.
Planetmath offers an entry on RMP 35 and the 2/n table .. for those that wish to ponder the majority of the scribal shorthand notes that Chace, and many other scholars have mentioned ... without solving ...
Calculating and proving each RMP answer following Ahmes' clues is fun.
Best Regards,
Milo
