Fair enough - what if the kid was recommended to move down early in the year and refused and now wants to at midterm time?

Seems reasonable. Hard to justify giving a student a grade based on standards outside of the course for which they are earning credit. I don't agree with policies or procedures that use grades to punish students for not making the school's operations easier such as dropping a course by a certain date, enrolling in the "right course" etc.

Our honors classes are quite different from our regents classes so it would be difficult to determine what grade an honors student would have received during those two quarters, so we just base the grade in the regents class on only the work done in the regents class.
