I have a model that is created using the design variables being optimized by fmincon. If the constraints are violated during intermediate steps, then the model cannot be created and fails, which causes fmincon to fail and the optimization to stop. Im trying to avoid having to apply a penalty to models that fail, and find some way to stay within the constraints at all times.
