Reading a mathematician on politics makes me think of an economist trying to solve a real problem:
A physicist, a chemist, and an economist are stranded on a desert island with no food, until a can of beans washes up. But, how to open the can?
The physicist says they could bash it open with a rock. The others object because the beans would just splatter all over the place.
The chemist thinks they could let the sea water rust through the can, but they all agree that would take too long.
Finally, after a long, pensive interval, the economist exclaims, "Eureka! Assume a can opener."
