It is known fact tha observations cannot verify theory, only falsify it, or make it rightness the more probable, at the best.
What can be verified is only its math and logic consistancy, and lack or internal controversy.
SR was not falsified by the former, there are many observation agreeing with risky predictions
and was proved to be OK by the latter.
absence of symmetric dilation would mean 2 mutually moving inertial frames are not equivalent.
