I'm on R2011b Windows XP and wanted to switch to a newer version of java (due to a lot of crashes with the default java). I have installed the latest java 7 on my computer and removed all other versions.

I've added MATLAB_JAVA as an Environment Variable (System Variable) to be C:\Program Files\Java\jre7 as per instructions but MATLAB can't find java when it boots. I get the message "Warning: Unable to load Java Runtime Environment: The specified module could not be found."
