Graduate programs feed the pipeline in every area of research, education included. I personally don't object to changing the pay structure for classroom teachers, to be more reflective of other work places. It would definitely tighten the pipeline, but I seriously doubt it would improve the quality of the research in graduate ed programs. The legislative proposals I've read on this rely heavily on evaluations by administrators, who are most likely PhDs in Ed, and also on assessments, which have been most recently developed in the edusphere.

I don't know the authors of that blog, but it seems balanced...
I think the general public would be concerned about the quality of the research that directly influences teaching practice and their child's learning, just as much as they are concerned about the quality of food their children consume, or the environmental they're exposed to...
IF they were aware that there is a problem.
This is why I really appreciate Bishop, Clopton and Milgam's volutary critique. It was never a personal attack(imho). It was to bring to light that there is a problem...
