I already proved you wrong with the facts. (See the sub-thread in question, this message above the the preceding ones by me.)
And I also have the personal experience of teaching both in CA and FL, large cities in both places (no rural in one and urban in the other) and I was much better off in the state with the higher cost of living - very meaningfully more disposable income at the same level of experience.
