Symbolic? I was just talking about the number level. You know, what is the square root of 256 or why does 1/7 result in a repeating decimal or why is a number divisible by 4 when the last two digits are divisible by 4. I don't think you can cover those things, and a hundred other such things, with bananas and apples.
