L.F.Shampine and M.W.Reichelt, The Matlab ODE suite, SIAM Journal of
Scientific Computing 18 (1997), no. 1, 1-22.

I don't know if this article also deals with the event detection
facility within the ODE suite, but as far as I know, a better
reference does not exist.
