As you do not mention the work of Tons Brunes in your paper, I assume that you are unaware of it. Brunes proposed precisely the same scenario as the likely origin of the Greek, and hence modern, alphabet lettering. It may interest you to see his discussion in The Secrets of Ancient Geometry and Its Use, V. II, pp. 195-228.
