there were no decimals per se
-- the Hindus gave a sero, not a decimal placing --
were created by Simon Stevin and instantly translated
into many languages (from his Latin);
he included this sole ambiguity
in his treatise. (I got this
from Oystein Ore's _Number Theory and Its History_ .-)
it is just a notational problem <end so-caleed problemma>
