On the logic and purpose of significance testing
The authors do consider *intriguing" the Cohen´s Modus Tollens example:
____Permise 1: If a person is an American, then that person
is probably not a member of Congress
____Permise 2 : The member is a member of Congress, therefore:
The person is probably not an American
After some degree of hesitation the Authors were lead to
conclude that Modus Tollens cannot be invoked if, without exception, must be an American citizen.
What is for me absolutely amazing is the tentative to
use Classic Logic in Probabilistic matters . . .
