I give you a simple example

instead of solving z complex for
z^2 = 5 + 12i,

Try to solve (x,y) in R^2 so that
real((x+1i*y)^2) = 5
imag((x+1i*y)^2) = 12;
using FSOLVE().

Then your complex solution is z = x + 1i*y.
