I tell again,when you use from real and imag commands for y=bessel(x) functions with complex argument,only matlab return: real(y) = y+conj(y) imag(y) = yconj(y) But,the problem is same,and you can not separate complex argument in bessel function. for other example: syms a b c = a+1j*b; d = besseli(1,c) d = besseli(1, a + b*i) % now: real(d) ans= conj(besseli(1, a + b*i))/2 + besseli(1, a + b*i)/2 imag(d) ans = (conj(besseli(1, a + b*i))*i)/2  (besseli(1, a + b*i)*i)/2
you can see the problem is same,and only become longer. ghasem
