I consider chess to be a branch of math (along the the study of, the programming of).
A lot goes on that's not strictly addition in chess, though subtraction of the queen may be considered an addition for the other side.
I guess you don't think multiplication is repeated addition or you would not need to 'and' them.
If we say "math is just addition" I'd think that's kind of like Henry Ford's definition of history: one damn thing after another.
