It wasn't at all well written. The gist of what they tried to say, I agree with. But the framing their complaint was poor, the argumentation put forward in support was amateurish, and so they gave Devlin a bunch of fish in a barrel to shoot. If they had written an article to my liking, focused and well argued, it probably it wouldn't make it into the NY Times.
