The file open dialog is largely irrelevant, that is just where I first noticed the error. The error occurs whenever repmat is called, which occurs frequently in the code (It will also presumably occur in any other calls relying on the linalg library, which I imagine are numerous).

I have had a more descriptive error message, which indicated that libgfortran, the GNU Fortran runtime library, was failing because the symbol __netf2, version GCC_4.3.0 (which is the long double precision floating point not equal comparison, implemented in software), was not defined in libgcc_s.so (the gcc runtime library), with link time reference. Not only is this symbol, with the correct version defined in libgcc_s.so, but a test fortran program successfully links and uses __netf2 from libgcc_s.so, making me think that this is not entirely a local linker problem.

Thanks for you help,
Ian
