Brigid, please know that some of us who do have contact with SED and Common Core, Inc. ARE listening, taking notes, AND visiting classrooms to see what is actually happening. I know that doesn't help you today and this week, but do know that they are getting feedback on how it is going (or not going, in some cases) "in the trenches" as you put it. Nan Gizowski

We have been told that there currently is no textbook out there that is aligned. It is very comforting to know that we are supposed to be " effective highly effective" in our teaching, yet what we are told to do or not do changes almost daily. It is near the end of the first marking period. I agree that common core could someday be a wonderful thing, but the implementation and information given to us has been "highly ineffective" at best. Perhaps the ones making these decisions should come into the trenches with us, to see what we are dealing with. Most of us don't have 9th graders who were all A students last year.
There also is a laundry list of topics that used to be in Algebra, but are not in Common Core. But our kids this year are so fortunate, because they can take 2 Regents exams that they won't be prepared for. Maybe in the spring, we'll have a better idea. So frustrating. The 3000 pieces of paper I printed off of engageny are a waste!! ________________________________________ From: ownernyshsmath@mathforum.org [ownernyshsmath@mathforum.org] on behalf of rbutch [rbutch0127@hotmail.com] Sent: Thursday, October 24, 2013 11:20 AM To: nyshsmath@mathforum.org Subject: Re: Algebra 1 How is it going?
I am moving away from the modules more and more...but I love how the state contiually calls the modules supplemental resources...what other resources are out there that are aligned to the common core that NYS has adopted? How many districts have purchases textbooks in the last year that are aligned with the common core?
