Greatest deviation correlation coefficient

I normally use the Pearson's correlation coefficient and the Spearman's rank correlation coefficient.
Now I would try to use the greatest deviation correlation coefficient: http://www.whereispdf.com/view/153332/contents/page_0005 but the problem is that I don't see x and y, I only see the rank p_j. Please, would someone explain?
Thank you Cristiano
