I think the dart board was specified to be the interval (0,1). We don't do whole lines. It takes at least ceiling(1/L) such segments (undivided further) to cover (0,1) if I understand you correctly -- but I can't quite picture what it means for a segment (say, A) to be *between* two *adjacent* intervals (neither of which is A I presume.)
