It was a complete disaster. You just have to look at the USA today and see that it is number 37 in math worldwide. Well, I suppose you can look at yourself and that is good enough. :-)
In Asia, students don't touch set theory until the 3rd year in high school when they have well-grounded skills. Even then, the focus is on finite set theory which is useful. Cantor's infinity rot is not in the syllabus. Just as well! Get yourself Singapore mathematics and you will know why Asians teenagers kick ass on the PISA assessments.
