A colleague of mine has posed this fascinating problem:

Take an arbitrary quadrilateral (four-sided figure) and
construct a square on each of the four edges. Each
square has its side flush with the respective edge.
Make a cross by connecting alternate centers of the squares.

Now, true or false:

"The two legs of the cross are always perpendicular."
"The two legs of the cross are always of equal length."
