Subject: What is Mathematics--suggested readings

This topic also reappeared recently after an absence of several months.
Without taking space to discuss it, I'd simply recommend two easy-to-read
essays that are focused on the topic:

1. The Mathematics Panel Report of Project 2061, published by
the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and

2. Chapter 3, "Mathematics ... Searching for Patterns" by Lynn
Arthur Steen, in Everybody Counts, published by National Academy Press.
