Judy's story is a good one, but I consider that to SUPPORT my point.
As I said, data present a solid TARGET. A specific measure, a
specific result may be investigated: what does it mean? how was it
collected? does it really reflect what it claims to? Those are
perfectly sensible questions to ask of data.

Some numbers are irrelevant, or misleading. It is up to a measure's
proponents to explain why any particular number should be thought
useful.
