>From my experience, math and science courses are not being taught at a more advanced level. There are several reasons for the proliferation of math and science tutoring centers. The commercialization of education and educational resources is likely to be the primary reason. Private tutoring was not prevalent in the past decades because it wasn't yet a common business practice. It is likely also that students are not achieving to their abilities, as there too many stimuli and extra-curricular activities compete for their attention daily.
