Subject: Longer 3-8 tests

On Monday, state testing director David Abrams sent a memo to NY supts
and principals saying that 3-8 reading and math tests would expand
this year to about 4 and 3 hours respectively (from about 2.5 and 2
hours now). Shortly thereafter SED retracted the memo, Abrams resigned
or was forced to resign, and SED said that a new memo will be issued
next week, saying that the tests will be longer but not as long as
announced on Monday.

The article also says that,

New York?s tests are shorter than those given in some other
states: third graders take a 150-minute test in language
arts,
and a 100-minute test in math, compared with 150-minute
to 270-minute tests in other states,
