I've also tried teamviewer which is simialar to splashtop but runs on
LInux, Mac and PC. A nice feature is that you don't have to install the
client on the PC, you can run it from RAM if you don't have install
rights.

Another problem with doceri, other than the price, is that it only has
an iPad app.

I tried splashtop (without whiteboard) on a droid tablet and had
trouble using it too. I had to get a stylus designed for the tablet but
it was still hard to use. I wonder if the whiteboard extension could
help me. Maybe your problem with finger tracking is related to the need
of a stylus?

Another problem is that they don't have a Linux client and I use Linux
in school. I use Windows when I visit other schools to speak at
conferences or when teaching summers at the local college. So an app
like slapshtop is interesting. What about doceri?

I recently acquired an iPad and would like to find new ways to use it

various Calculus apps, but my question is geared more toward general
teaching.  I?d like to be able to use the iPad in conjunction with my
interactive whiteboard.  I know there are some apps out there that
convert the iPad to a remote desktop (specifically Splashtop Remote
Desktop) but I?ve played around with it and don?t like that you can?t
write on the screen the way you can with a SmartBoard (unless you use
the ?pen? feature on PowerPoint, but that?s not ideal).  I saw that
Splashtop also has something called Splashtop Whiteboard that looks
like what I want ? but it?s a bit too pricey for me to just blindly
purchase.  Has anyone used this?  Or has anyone found something that
works as a remote desktop but lets you easy write on the screen?

I bought Splashtop Whiteboard, and unfortunately there's a major
problem with the responsiveness (specifically, the app mis-places
touches, so when you draw on the screen, the resulting drawing doesn't
appear where your finger was).  A number of other users have posted in
the application's forum on the creator's website, and I'm guessing it's
a problem that they'll eventually fix-- but I wouldn't suggest paying
for that particular app, until it's been fixed.

In the meantime, I'm using a couple of applications installed on my
laptop which allow me to write either on a drawing program, or to write
anywhere on the screen.  But, those are separate, not-free applications
that I had already bought for my laptop...
