Subject: Finding asymptote of a field data

Hi.

Given a set of data collected from field, how do you find the asymptotes?
I'm particularly interested in finding the horizontal asymptotes.

Is there a proper mathematical way to compute? I was thinking to just sample a group of data and once the variances dont differ by certain amount, that is the asymptote?
Any pointer please.
