Have you ever heard of a subject called
"numerical analysis"?

While studying with a friend for finals
many years ago, he asked why we had to
learn this "stuff" since it could all
be done with calculators.

I pointed out to him that it was human
beings with mathematical theories that
informed the algorithms of the
calculators.
