Subject: orthgnlizing vectors help please

I am trying hard to orthogonalize one vector to another. What I want is to orhognalized vector X with respect to Y without changing Y. I did the following :

X_orth = X - dot(X,Y)*Y/(norm(Y)^2)

However, X_orth*Y'= -2.8306e+03
