The underlying problem is that, using the conventional form of debate on any complex issue, this is almost impossible. It rarely ever happens in real life that we actually get to understand these pros and cons: it doesn't matter whether the issue is a school curriculum to nuclear disarmament.
I have used this debate to sharpen my sense of math and its pedagogy. I have worked with several other parents to help them teach math to their children and I will post soon some of my recent lessons with my son. Not to brag, but lately I have been flat out nailing the task of teaching math. Also, as I recall, these other people, like Haim and Bishop, that you have personal grievances with, also nailed the task of teaching mathematics to their children. We obviously understand a lot about teaching mathematics. Has it not occurred to you that you may be missing the actual debate going on here because of your insistence on making thing personal?
