From you? Or from someone with real clout over an 18-year-old?

We are talking my son or daughter right? Not just some 18 year old off the street. I am failing to understand your inability to accept that some parents (many in fact) actually have control of their kids and that control does not tragically disappear at 18. I do not contemplate having any problem at all with NOT ALLOWING something as stupid as what this author allowed or supported. What are you basing your statements on? Parenting experience or memories of your own youthful angst? I am a parent and I am halfway through the course. It can be done well and it isn't that hard. Just like it wasn't that hard to teach my son mathematics.

Generally speaking, parenting isn't done well by a parent who thinks it isn't hard.
