at Ohio University invites applications for an assistant professor of mathematics education in the Department Teacher Education. We seek an individual with credentials, experience, and a record of teaching, research, and service suitable for a tenure-track position in the college.

The Patton College supports learner-centered teaching, research and scholarship, and service within and beyond the university. Faculty members are expected to conduct scholarship at a level commensurate with a research university, to embrace a clinical model of teacher education, and to be innovative with regard to instructional formats. Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate and graduate classes in the Department of Teacher Education and in particular classes in mathematics methods for teacher candidates in early childhood education, middle childhood education, and special education. Other position responsibilities include undergraduate and graduate advising; conducting original research; writing scholarly works for publication; pursuing external grant funding to support project and research activity; participating in school, college, and university service; and sharing responsibility for activities such as advising student professional organizations; participating in continuing accreditation activities (NCATE); working with regional mathematics education programs; and being actively involved in professional organizations. We seek a candidate who is committed to the region, the mission of the university, and the goals of the department.

Minimum Qualifications:
.  Doctorate in mathematics education or a related field
.  Master's degree in mathematics, or the equivalent

.  Potential for or record of strong scholarship in mathematics education
.  Teaching experience at the K-12 level
.  Interest in developing innovative curricula
.  Research and evaluation experience that will help obtain grant funding and lead
to further innovation in programs
.  Interest in supporting and implementing P-12 reforms
.  Potential to expand teacher professional development programs and to assist local schools in developing advanced curricular offerings
.  Proficiency in teaching with technology
.  Record of service to the profession

The Department of Teacher Education includes 13 tenure-line faculty members who serve more than 1,400 bachelor's, 160 master's, and 40 doctoral students in a full range of licensure, endorsement, and advanced programs. The department engages with the Center for Professional Development School Partnerships, the Child Development Center, the Coalition of Rural and Appalachian Schools, and the Stevens Literacy Center. Mathematics education within the department cuts across early childhood, middle school, and adolescent-to-young-adult licensure as well as advanced programs. The department boasts a thriving PhD program in mathematics education, with some 14 students actively enrolled in course work or engaged in dissertation research.

The Department of Teacher Education has a long history of collaboration with the Department of Mathematics. The Morton professor of mathematics education teaches in both departments, and another faculty member has a joint appointment across the two departments. Faculty members from both departments are engaged in the work of the South East Ohio Center for Excellence in Mathematics and Science. Faculty members in both departments maintain productive and interactive programs of teaching, scholarship, and service.
