After Rob organized the question, I can’t help but offer my 2-cents.
I thought a math forum would have thousands of ideas from obsessive organizers, but I’ll share my thoughts after each of the questions presented:
1.)
How does one digitize what's been accumulated?
a.
Feed the paper or transparency (?) worksheets through copier/scanner and save as PDF’s (largely uneditable).
i. In my opinion a feed-tray scanner makes all the difference.
ii. My colleagues who used flat bed scanners were incredible diligent and organized and were just as successful.
b.
Save as PDF’s then “snip” to “WORD” to make it partially editable (change dates, course name)
c.
Transcribe (ugggg)
2.)
How to name and organize for an easy and comprehensive retrieval?
a.
Math teachers are almost all OCD (or CDO if you prefer), so I wouldn’t force a preference on anyone.
b.
The scanner/copier I use sends the PDF’s and I label/name document by Unit-Day-descriptor (i.e. blank or key).
c.
I files place in course and unit specific folder. (Yes, there is unit redundancy)
3.)
How does one digitize when
creating worksheets, etc.?
a.
Not sure I understand this question, as soon as you pick up the keyboard or mouse instead of paper and pencil you are digitizing.
b.
MS Word and Smartboard Notebook are probably the most used. But Keynote, Open Office, and Google docs seem to be great alternatives.

This is actually a great question, but there should be 3 parts.
1.) How does one digitize what's been accumulated?
2.) How to name and organize for an easy and comprehensive retrieval?
3.) How does one digitize when
creating worksheets, etc.?

I have a Fuji Snapscan that is fast and turns files into pdf files.

I have been teaching for 15 years and have accumulated a lot of worksheets, review games, conference ideas, etc. The paper files are getting a bit overwhelming. Does anyone
know of an easy/good way to go digital? I have a scanner, but it seems like a lot of work. Also, what about editing these files once they are a computer document? Thanks for your input.
