I vote we expand our definition of innumeracy
to include such things as confusion about which
way to turn a screw. The "righty tighty lefty
loosey" mantra is just like one of those arithmetical
mantras we sometimes use to reinforce a "math fact"
of a more lexical nature. Mathematics is a left
*and* right brained activity, not either/or. And
in our culture, it's the graphical that's *way*
underdeveloped (cite "reform" BDTs). Computers
pave the way, but we're bottlenecking in calculators.
