>The Scientific Method is a paradigm
or mantra that both informs science education and gives students a home base:
they can understand that even though washing out the glassware is a drag, it
has a purpose within the SCIENTIFIC METHOD (elimination of irrelevent
variables; repeatability;) and that the SCIENTIFIC METHOD pays off. They can
read about how the great scientists applied the SCIENTIFIC METHOD, and so on.

Very well! This is the point I have tried to deliever all the time.
I don't see why we can not bring the same good things to kids
even within the context of formal mathematics. Don't misunderstand me, I
don't mean to say that the applied part of math is not important, but again,
it can also be very boring.

(has people notices that we all become too careful with the wording, otherwise
we will immediately got attacked simply because you have been labelled as
anti-reform, anti-Standards, anti-revolution...., and be accused of saying
someting you did not say.)
