Science is 10% inspiration and 90% perspiration (like so many other things in life). There is certainly room for scientists who are not geniuses, but who have perseverence to perform experiments and measurements carefully and repeatedly or to work hard on mathematical theories to figure out their consequences. In fact, being a genius will not in itself make you a scientist -- you need to be able to work hard and be critical of your own work and results.
