Equation Editor3.0-font size-HELP

Most of the time using Microsoft Word, I am able to change the font
size of an equation in Equation Editor3.0 by selecting the equaion
then, the "Size - Other" menu option. However, sometimes I am UNABLE
to change the font size using the very same procedure (select the
equation then, "Size - Other"). Why am I able to change the size only
some of the times and not others??? THis is driving me crazy!!
