I have two questions I need some help on. I have a pretty good idea
on 1), but I am not sure on 2).

1) Suppose A is pxq with rank p and B is pxr, how do I show that
[A B] has rank p?

2) Suppose that pxq matrix A has n nonzero rows and p-n zero rows.
If k is the rank of A, how could I show k <= n ?

I appreciate your help.
