[Fathom & TP] A conference (ICMI) you might be interested in

This came to us by way of John Olive. It concerns an interesting conference to be held in Hanoi, Vietnam, December 3-6, 2006.
I think a Fathom submission would be welcome!

The 17th ICMI Study will be concerned with the use of digital technologies in mathematics teaching and learning in countries across the world. In particular it will focus on:
1. cultural diversity and how this diversity impinges on the use of digital technologies in mathematics teaching and learning particularly in developing countries.
a set of themes to serve as the organising framework: Mathematics and mathematical practices; Learning and assessing mathematics with and through digital technologies; Teachers and teaching; Design of learning environments and curricula; Implementation of curricula and classroom practice; Access, equity and socio-cultural issues; Connectivity and virtual networks for learning.
Participants in the Study will be invited through their written submission to propose to which theme they would contribute taking account of the following approaches: Impact on mathematics; Roles of different digital technologies; Contribution to learning mathematics; Role of the teacher; Theoretical frameworks.
The Study Conference will be hosted by the Hanoi Institute of Technology. As is the normal practice for ICMI studies, participation in the Study conference will be by invitation only, given on the basis of a submitted contribution.
The Study Book that will follow from ICMI Study 17 will be published in the ICMI Study Series. The volume will be informed by the papers and the discussions at the Study Conference as well as its outcomes. A report on the Study and its outcomes will also be presented at the 11th International Congress on Mathematical Education to be held in Mexico in 2008.
Call for Contributions to ICMI Study 17
Submissions will be between 6 pages and 8 pages and written in English, the language of the conference.
They will be submitted electronically at http://www.math.msu.edu/ ~nathsinc/ICMI/
Date of submission: no later than January 15, 2006.
Proposals will be reviewed and decisions about invitation to the Conference will be sent by the middle of May, 2006.
