arbitrary precision package

I'm working on a project that requires:
- arbitrary size integer arithmetics
- extraction of logarithms with a good precision \ fixed point arithmetic
- " square roots /

IEEE 80-bit arithmetic isn't suitable ; in fact, it gives artifacts as
some large numbers (> 20 decimal digits) are computed and rounded to
fit in the 64-bit mantissa.

Several libraries (such as GMP) exist for the first part ; but the tricky
parts are the second and third. The PARI package does that ; but it's interface and
overall design is clunky ; besides, it's not that fast.

Do you know of any package, easily interfacable with C or Perl, that does
the said work?
