[HM] history of graphical iteration

Dear all subscribers,

I would like to know some history about the method
"graphical iteration" allowing to explore discrete dynamical
systems in one real variable.

I found one application inside one article by Salvatore Pincherle
in 1913 :

Pincherle Salvatore,
Alcune osservazioni sulla iterata di una funzione data,
Rend. Reale Accad. Scienze Bologna; (Nuova serie),
18, (1913-1914), pp. 75-88.

I was wondering whether some facts about this method can be
tracked down and know for example who invented it and when
at least.
