I guess I don't entirely understand the problem. Does "3 less eggs are available for £7.80" mean if 3 eggs are taken out of a dozen, the remaining eggs cost £7.80? I guess I don't know what "3 less eggs" means. Is it 3 fewer than some assumed initial number?
