Look at the figure below. Given that AF ? BD, solve for x and y.
If AF ? B, then m FED = 90 and m FEB= 90.
To find x , we need to determine the measures of the complementary angles FEC and CEB
To find x , we need to determine the measures of the complementary angles FEC and CEB
m FEB = m FEC + m CFD Sum of parts = whole 90 = 3x + x Substitution 90 = 4x Add. 22.5 = x Divide each side by 4.
To find y , we need to determine m FED. Since we know that AF ? B , we know that m FED = 90 °.
m FED = y + 20 Given 90 = y + 20 Substitution 70 = y Subtract 20 from each side.
