What am I missing?

8 x 6 = 48
48 divided by 4 = 12

How does that relate to 48/8?

I have developed a learning process to teach kids division
however this is not long division example 48/8 I do believe you coud
teach them long division with this process

example: multiply 8 x 6 and divide the answer by 4

the concept is based on repetition and the willingness to win the game
