Two Column Proof

This is not a facetious question. Let me just state that outright.

Why do we teach two-column proof?

Note that I am not asking why we teach reasoning, or proof in general. I feel that is important. I am just a little shaky on making everyone learn two-column proof.

I would love some feedback!
